Kimmy Dora

I was with Rizza and Charity at Megamall last Friday (Lou joined us later on) to meet up with the lone male Cloud 7 member whose in town for a family emergency (yup, he’s Pinoy). Charity was with her officemate, and he suggested to us to watchKimmy Dora because it’s a very good movie. I’ve been curious about it because of the excellent word-of-mouth it’s been getting. This movie is not produced/released by a major movie studio (although a major Pinoy superstar is one of the producers) so it wasn’t promoted as heavily as other major productions. The lead actress is a comedian who’s untested at the boxoffice as it is her first major starring role. But it’s doing well at the tills because of word-of-mouth. We’re so curious why, so we decided to see it.

PS: One big plus point for this movie for us: We were pleasantly surprised to learn that Kimmy and Dora are Korean-Filipino. Their father (played by Ariel Ureta) is a Korean; he even signed his name ‘Go Dong Hae’ in Hangeul. We don’t see a lot of Korean characters in Filipino movies so it’s such a nice surprise.
